I agree. The original ending, while it fits in the Ira Levin wheelhouse of shocker endings (see: Rosemary’s Baby and The Stepford Wives) would have been bleak. I love how it baits us with the flashing of the police lights, before the twist reveal of Rod.
I think they made the right choice with the Get Out ending, but I'm glad the other version exists as a sort of dark alternate timeline
