Mulholland Drive was meant to be David Lynch's anticipated return to TV. But when ABC refused to pick it up, the pilot was repurposed into one of his best and most memorable feature films.
There were so many fun details I had to leave out- like execs nervous about the final shot of the bum behind Denny's with glowing red eyes, and Lynch assuring them that the red was because of a neon light reflection, not because they were alien of anything- but the entire story behind Mulholland Drive is as fascinating as the film.
